Divorce: What Do I Stand to Loose?

A couple in divorce processGod never intended that couple should marry and Later divorce. Although separation is advised when life of any of the parties in marriage is threatened but seeking divorce on every flimsy reason is what people of God, indeed every married should avoid at all cost because of its far-reaching implications. God intended marriage to be for life. That’s why He stated in Matthew 5:32 that a man should not put away his wife unless where fornication is involved. We are looking at the unpleasant ways divorce affects the two individuals (the man and want ) in the marriage relationship.

1. LONELINESS

Loneliness comes with divorce. Suddenly the house become too big and empty. It is even worse in the case where all the Children are grown up and have left home. God created man as a gregarious animal. That’s why God said in Genesis 2:18 It is not good for a man to be alone…

2. LOSS OF MONEY

Especially when alimony is involved, there’s loss of money or wealth. Also there are legal fees to be paid which leaves the man and or the woman poorer than before.

3. GUILT

Divorce leaves a bitter taste in the mouth of the 2 persons involved. The devil who instigates divorce in the first place comes back to the husband and the wife to torment them with constant accusation.

4. A SENSE OF WORTHLESSNESS

The person who had just gone through divorce feels worthless. He or she often feels that he or she has failed in life. It will take constant reassurance from friends and counsellors to build self esteem again.

5. PSYCHOLOGICAL TRAUMA       ON CHILDREN

Divorce leaves wounds on children difficult to heal. Many children from divorce back ground has grown up to hate their father who abused their mother prior to divorce or vice versa. This problem also affect these children in  their own home also as girls born in divorced families may see all men as being bad.

6. LOSS OF RESPECT

In some climes, the person who has just been through divorce looses respect among siblings, colleagues at work, church members and friends.

7. AFFECT ONE’S TESTIMONY
As a child of God, divorce has adverse effect on your testimony as believer in Jesus Christ. It is for this reason that Apostle admonished Titus not to place in a position of leadership any man that could not rule his household well. 1st Timothy 3:12.
